Chamonix Restaurant Guide

Chamonix has a large variety of cuisine, French, Italian, Swiss, Scandinavian, Japanese and Indian, there is something to satisfy every taste bud and wallet.  Some of our favourites:

Chambre Neuf

A great place to sit and relax and enjoy the friendly mountain atmosphere.  Open just for lunch in winter and evenings as well in summer, the menu offers international dishes such as chicken quesadillas, Swedish meatballs, Chinese noodles and tataki salmon, but the famous Chambre Burger is the most popular dish on the menu! There is also a freshly prepared ‘plat du jour’ (daily special), which is always great value.

The Micro Brasserie de Chamonix has become, in a very short time, a Chamonix institution. Offering beer brewed on the premises and high quality pub grub and lively apres ski and late night live music. A must visit when in Chamonix.

La Caleche

The perfect place to taste authentic Savoyarde dishes.  It seats up to 350 people over 3 floors and has a fantastic interior décor.  Due to the large area it is perfect for groups as well as couples, as there are many seating areas to choose from.

Serving a variety of Japanese dishes in a simply designed dining area. Sake and ice-cold Japanese beer are available to complement the excellent sushi, sashimi and noodle dishes.  If you want more of a traditional Japanese eating experience, there is a room down stairs for special occasions and bigger groups where you have to take your shoes off and sit on the floor.

Casa Valerio

There are many Italian Pizza restaurants in town but the pick of the bunch would have to be Casa Valerio.  The best Italian pizza cooked in a wood fire oven.  They will also let you design your own pizza.  Take away available but you have to collect.

A great restaurant with fantastic service and classic organic Italian dishes, this genuine Savoyarde farmhouse has a unique rustic yet elegant feel to it and ensures a first-class dining experience.  They are a good option for large groups and vegetarians and also offer cooking classes.

La Maison Carrier

A High Mountain Holidays favourite, classing Savoyarde with a real class twist. The chef is the ex sous-chef from the Albert 1er and offers up some lovely dishes. It was worth a visit just for the dessert Christmas tree - when you see it you will understand!

L'M brasserie and terrace

One of the best located restaurants in Chamonix with a large terrace and spectacular views of the mountains.  Serving typical Savoyard cuisine and specialties: fondue, raclette, tartiflette, cured meats... There are also a number of fish and pasta dishes and yummy desserts.  The 3-course set menu for just 28 EUR is very good value.  A perfect place to sit back and soak up the atmosphere.

Albert 1er

Undoubtedly one of the finest hotels in the Chamonix valley and is home to the Albert Premier restaurant, recipient of two Michelin stars. You can choose from the à la carte menu, or from one of the set menus, designed around seasonal or traditional ingredients.  You may expect it to be a formal traditional dining experience, however it is actually very welcoming. The staff are charming, the service impeccable, and the surroundings tranquil.

Le Monchu

This is the place to be for a cheese fondue! A warm and friendly atmosphere with local and traditional specialties such as reblochonnade, raclette and cheese fondue. Right in the center of town behind the post office, next to the casino.

Poco Loco / Midnight express / Elevation / Extreme Café

Some of the best places to go for a relaxed afternoon of sitting in the sun, or just for grabbing a quick sandwich.  Poco Loco is famous for their huge burgers and large portion of chips, Midnight Express as the name suggests, is open till the early hours of the morning offering fantastic sandwiches and can be a savior for those light night munchies.  Elevation is an excellent spot to grab a large coffee with breakfast in the sun or perhaps a beer with nachos after a hard day of exercise.  Extreme café, situated right in the centre of town is a great place to sit and watch the world go by as you munch on a healthy sandwich and sip on a fruit filled smoothie.

Moö bar cuisine

Awesome atmosphere and friendly prices. For lunch Moo serves three 'plats du jour' (veggie, meat, fish) that change daily alongside a set menu with nearly all ingredients sourced from the local town markets. At night they focus on homemade gourmet burgers on house made buns.
